Frequently Asked Questions About Wedding Dress Shopping
We’re here to help. Wedding planning can be stressful, so let us take one thing off your plate: finding your dress. If you’re nervous about trying on gowns or unsure what to expect, this list covers the most common questions. Still need help?
-
Yes, we do require an appointment to try on wedding dresses. The reason is that our bridal consultants work with you one-on-one for a full hour and a half, giving you plenty of time and personalized attention to find your perfect wedding gown. Walk-ins are always welcome, but because of pre-scheduled appointments you most likely won’t be able to try on any dresses if you arrive without a booking. We want your visit to be relaxed and special, so just reach out and we’ll happily get you on the books!
-
You can’t order your wedding dress too early, only too late. Most gowns are made after you order, so expect 4–6 months for the dress to arrive at the shop. Order about 10–12 months before your wedding to allow time for arrival and alterations.
Short on time? Don’t worry — we’ll do our best to get a dress quickly. Designers sometimes have gowns already in progress, and we also offer off-the-rack options you can take home the same day, often at a great price.
-
Your bridal appointment lasts 90 minutes. Be ready to try on gowns. It helps to have an idea of the style you like. Your bridal consultant will ask some questions to begin.
Please arrive on time so we can give each bride full attention.
Bring any undergarments you plan to wear on your wedding day (underwear required) to get the best fit and look.
-
We're a small boutique, so we can't easily host groups larger than five. If you have a big party, a weeknight appointment works best. Remember: choosing your wedding dress is your decision—large groups can make it hard to form your own opinion.
-
Our wedding dresses typically cost $1,400–$2,800, with some above and below. The average price is about $1,700. We handpick designer gowns that are beautiful and affordable.
We also have The Attic: off-the-rack dresses you can take home the same day, starting at $799.

Congratulations on finding your wedding dress! We’ll measure you in-store and order the gown to match those measurements as closely as possible. Most gowns still need alterations when they arrive — these tailorings make the dress fit you perfectly and are not included in the dress price.
A 50% deposit is due when you order; the remaining 50% is due when the dress arrives. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and cash.
All bridal gowns are final sale, so we cannot accept returns. Please be certain before you buy.
While you wait a few months for your dress to arrive, use the time to choose accessories like shoes, veils, and hair pieces. This is also a great time to research bridal seamstresses (we have a list) and schedule your appointment with alterations. We’ll call you as soon as your gown is in the store.
-
We don't do in-store bridal alterations. We can recommend trusted seamstresses in the St. Charles and St. Louis areas who have years of bridal experience. You'll love them — they’re like our personal magicians and are excited to help with your gown.

Which St. Louis area bridal store should I shop at? Here’s a quick guide.
Cleo Bridal and White Traditions Bridal House carry different designers and styles — they don’t overlap. The main difference is price: White Traditions averages about $2,500 per dress, while Cleo Bridal averages about $1,700. Cleo also has more off-the-rack gowns in the attic. Both shops require appointments and offer excellent service, just with slightly different vibes.
